A Note from Pastor Matthew

How would you feel if someone verbally attacked your spouse? How would you respond to someone who frequently ran down your spouse, demeaned them, ridiculed them, and pointed out their flaws? Wouldn’t it make you mad? Wouldn’t you rush to defend your spouse (and you rightfully should)?
Well as you know the Church is the bride of Christ! And Jesus loves His bride with all His heart, mind, soul, and strength! He loves His bride with the totality of His being!  Jesus is the lover, savior, provider, sustainer, protector of His bride! He is loyal, faithful, and true to her!
So can you imagine how Jesus feels when people talk about His bride? Can you imagine how Jesus feels when people nitpick His bride, point out her flaws, tear down parts of her body, and mocks and teases her?
This thought should give pause and should also lead us to some apologizing and repentance because let’s be honest…we have all, at one time or another and to various degrees, talked badly about the Church! We have all pointed out her shortcomings, we have all judged her effectiveness, we have all disliked parts of her body, we have all complained about how she is not giving us what we need or what we want. Shame on us!
As Christians, not only are we are a part of the bride but we are also people who are to help the bride, encourage the bride, equip the bride, build the bride, strengthen the bride, and love the bride!
Sure the Church is not perfect (if it was you and I would not be allowed to join), sure the Church has some shortcomings and some growing and improving to do, BUT it is also the beloved bride of the King of Kings! And Church is beautiful, special, holy, and a blessing and a privilege to be a part of!
So let us be careful how we speak of and treat the bride of Jesus, I don’t know about you but I don’t want to face the anger of an all-powerful Husband who decides to slap the mouth of one who talks badly about His bride!
Let us all rejoice in the fact that we are part of the beautiful bride of Christ and we are loved by Him! So let us love Jesus and His bride!

God bless,
Pastor Matthew
